Is a fatbike still legal?
Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.
What are the new fatbike rules for 2026?
As of 2026, stricter rules apply around age, helmet requirements, and vehicle specifications. Check our information page for the latest details.
Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?
You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.
