Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

What does tuning a fatbike cost?

A tunable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

Safety and the law

In the Restricted (250W) version the Ouxi GT24 rides with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. That makes it an electric bicycle. You need no driving licence, helmet or number plate. Walk assist helps up to 6 km/h, handy when you walk the bike alongside you.

The Ouxi GT24 in daily use

Comfort and riding position

The frame size is 85 cm and the frame is made of steel. Front and rear suspension absorb speed bumps and cobbles. With 7 gears you choose for yourself how hard you pedal. The GT24 is suitable for 2 people. The maximum load is 150 kg, and that applies to the two of you together. To be fair: at 40 kg this is not a light bike. Carrying it up stairs or lifting it into a high bike rack takes strength.

Battery, display and charging

The 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh battery is removable. Charging takes approx. 4 hours. The stated range is up to 65 km. What you actually get depends on riding style, speed, tyre pressure, temperature, assistance level and terrain. The bike has an LCD display with NFC.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

In the Restricted (250W) version the Ouxi GT24 has a 250W motor with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. In the Tunable version you tune it up to 50 km/h. The tuning parts are already included, so you buy nothing separately and only pay the extra charge. Separate parts are in the tuning kits; the product finder shows per model which parts fit. The law sets the limit for an electric bicycle at 25 km/h pedal assist. A speed pedelec up to 45 km/h, for example, needs a moped number plate. A throttle that goes faster than 6 km/h without pedalling is not allowed on the public road. Tuned riding is allowed on private or enclosed property only; on the public road a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.

Service, warranty and delivery

You get 3 years warranty on the frame. Moving parts and the battery are covered for 1 year. With delivery boxed you assemble the bike yourself. If you choose assembled, we build it up, adjust the brakes and check the battery. It then arrives ready to ride. Order before 23:59 and you have it at home tomorrow. That delivery time applies to the Netherlands.

Ouxi GT24 versus QMWheel V20 Pro

The QMWheel V20 Pro also has a 250W motor and a battery with the same values: 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh. It rides on 20 inch wheels, has a frame size of 75 cm and weighs 34 kg. Charging takes 4 to 6 hours. On the lowest assistance it gets up to roughly 75 km. The GT24 has larger wheels, an 85 cm frame and charges in approx. 4 hours. It is 6 kg heavier, though.

Ouxi GT24 versus Ouxi GT2000

The Ouxi GT2000 shares the 24 inch wheels, the 24x4.0 inch tyres and the frame size of 85 cm. Its battery, at 48V / 30Ah / 1440Wh, is twice as large. That gives it 80 km on average assistance and up to 100 km on low assistance. Charging takes 5 to 6 hours. The GT2000 weighs 34 kg, has an aluminium frame and is meant for 1 person. The GT24, on the other hand, takes a passenger along and charges faster.

Ouxi GT24 versus Ouxi V8 Ultra Max

The Ouxi V8 Ultra Max, like the GT24, weighs 40 kg and is also suitable for 2 people. It has two batteries with 1440 Wh combined and gets 120 km on average assistance. A full charge takes 5 to 7 hours, and it rides on 20 inch wheels. If you ride long distances, the V8 Ultra Max suits you better. If you want larger wheels and a shorter charging time, you end up with the GT24.

No, not in the Restricted (250W) version. It has pedal assist up to 25 km/h. That means you ride on the public road without a driving licence, helmet or number plate.

How far do I get on one battery charge?

The stated range is up to 65 km. Riding style, terrain and temperature determine what you get in practice. An empty battery is full again in approx. 4 hours.
