Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

What does tuning a fatbike cost?

A tunable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

QMWheel V20 Pro – Black: three working days of commuting on one battery charge

720 Wh battery, up to 75 km range (60 km on average), 4 to 6 hours of charging, 34 kg. That is the black QMWheel V20 Pro in figures. If your commute is 10 km each way, you only top up after three days. The 250W motor assists up to 25 km/h, the legal limit on the road.

Safety and the law

In the Restricted (250W) version you ride legally on the public road straight away: no driving licence, helmet, number plate or insurance needed. LED lighting and rear indicators keep you visible. If you choose Tunable, tuned riding is allowed on private or enclosed property only; on the road 25 km/h remains the maximum.

The V20 Pro in daily use

Comfort and riding position

Frame size 75 cm, high frame entry, suitable for a height of 150 to 200 cm. The extended saddle is made for two people and the maximum load is 150 kg. A suspension fork and rear shock absorber take up cobbles and speed bumps. You feel the 34 kg when you lift it. Seven Shimano gears let you keep pedalling when the battery is flat.

Battery, display and charging

You take the battery out of the frame with the key and charge it indoors, at work for example. A full charge takes 4 to 6 hours; a button shows the charge status. The LCD H6C display shows speed and ride data, with three assistance levels (PAS 1-3). Level 1 is the most frugal: up to roughly 75 km.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

The Tunable version can be tuned up to 45 km/h with the red motor plug and the 21A controller. A black motor plug goes with the tunable 15A controller, and then 32 km/h is the maximum. So check your plug colour first. You need the tunable controller with red motor plug and the tunable H6C display. With that original display you switch back to 25 km/h through the killswitch: hold two buttons for about 3 seconds. Both are in the tuning kits; you read the step-by-step guide in tuning the V20 Pro. Tuned riding is allowed on private or enclosed property only; on the public road a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.

Service, warranty and delivery

You get 3 years warranty on the frame and 1 year on the battery and moving parts. You choose the delivery yourself: boxed, or assembled with the bike built up, the brakes adjusted and the battery checked. Ordered before 23:59 is delivered tomorrow in the Netherlands. Delivery to Belgium and Germany is available.

Parts and accessories for the V20 Pro

Controller: restricted 15A or 21A replacement, or the tunable versions above.
Display: H6C display, restricted or tunable, 48V with a 5-pin plug.
Battery: you charge a second 48V battery while the other one sits in the bike.

V20 Pro versus Ouxi GT2000

The Ouxi GT2000 has 48V / 30Ah / 1440Wh and reaches 80 km on average assistance. It rides on 24 inch wheels, is meant for 1 person and goes up to 60 km/h when tuned, with a killswitch and a throttle up to 6 km/h. The V20 Pro charges full faster and takes a passenger along. Both weigh 34 kg.

V20 Pro versus Ouxi C80 Family Edition

The Ouxi C80 Family Edition is sold restricted only; tuning to 45 km/h runs through a separate controller or display. The C80 weighs 36 kg, the V20 Pro 34 kg. With the V20 Pro you choose restricted or tunable when you order.

V20 Pro versus Ouxi V8 Ultra Max

The Ouxi V8 Ultra Max has two batteries of 1440 Wh together and gets 120 km on average assistance. It weighs 40 kg, charges in 5 to 7 hours and is tunable to 50 km/h. If you ride more than 30 km a day, that is the logical step; otherwise the V20 Pro is 6 kg lighter.

The V20 Pro also comes in Dark grey and Light grey, with the same specifications.

Frequently asked questions about the V20 Pro

Do I need a driving licence for the V20 Pro?

No. In the Restricted (250W) version the V20 Pro counts as an electric bicycle with assistance up to 25 km/h: no driving licence, helmet, number plate or insurance needed. If you tune it, you ride on private property only.

How often do I charge with a daily commute?

With a 60 km average range and 20 km a day you charge every three days. On the lowest level you get up to roughly 75 km. Charging takes 4 to 6 hours.

May I ride tuned on the public road?

No. That is allowed on private or enclosed property only. On the public road the pedal assist stays restricted to 25 km/h. With the original H6C display you switch back.

What maintenance does the V20 Pro ask for?

Keep the tyres at pressure and check the chain and brake pads regularly. Charging regularly extends the life of the battery. The frame has 3 years warranty, the battery and moving parts 1 year.

Do I have to assemble the bike myself?

That is up to you. With delivery boxed you assemble it yourself. If you choose assembled, we build it up, adjust the brakes and check the battery.
