Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

What does tuning a fatbike cost?

A tunable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

QMWheel V20 Pro – Dark Grey: city fatbike with up to 75 km of range and a lockable battery

The QMWheel V20 Pro in dark grey runs on 20 inch wheels with 20x4 inch tyres. The rear hub motor delivers 250 W, the battery 48 V / 15 Ah / 720 Wh. Good for 60 km on average. The bike weighs 34 kg and carries up to 150 kg. Compact and easy to steer in busy traffic.

Dark grey, also called Anthracite Grey, stands out less than glossy black. You take the battery out of the frame with a key and charge it indoors. You order it from FatbikeKlaar.nl; the same fatbike goes to Belgium through FatbikeKlaar.be and is available in English at FatbikeKlaar.com.

Safety and the law

As Restricted (250W) this is a pedal assist bike: 250 W nominal, 25 km/h. A driving licence, helmet, number plate and insurance are not needed. The throttle helps up to 6 km/h when pulling away. The Tunable version you tune to 45 km/h, meant for private property. LED lighting and rear indicators make you visible in traffic.

The V20 Pro in practice

Comfort and riding position

The frame size is 75 cm, the frame entry is high and the bike suits 150 to 200 cm. The extended saddle seats two people. The front fork and rear suspension absorb speed bumps and loose paving slabs. Do count on 34 kg: carrying it upstairs is not going to work, so find a spot on the ground floor. The short wheelbase saves space in a crowded bike shed.

Battery, display and charging

In the city you pull away again and again, so count on 45 km rather than 75 km. There is a small button with a charge indicator on the battery. Charging takes 4 to 6 hours according to the specification. The LCD display (H6C family, 48 V, 5-pin) shows speed and ride data.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

The Tunable version goes up to 45 km/h, but the motor plug sets the maximum. Red motor plug: 21 A and 500 W, up to 45 km/h. Black motor plug: 15 A and 250 W, 32 km/h at most. The colour sits inside the first plug on the motor cable. The tunable H6C display works with a tuning code and a killswitch back to 25 km/h.

Riding tuned is only allowed on private or enclosed property; on public roads a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies. The warranty lapses above 25 km/h. You will find sets in the tuning kits collection, the steps in Tuning the QMWheel V20, V20 Pro or S20.

Service, warranty and delivery

You get 3 years of warranty on the frame and 1 year on the battery and moving parts. Boxed, you assemble it yourself; assembled, we build it up, adjust the brakes and check the battery. Ordered before 23:59, it arrives in the Netherlands tomorrow, with our own delivery service. You have 14 days to return it. We deliver to Belgium and Germany too.

Parts and accessories for the V20 Pro

Controller for the red motor plug: the tunable 21A controller reaches 45 km/h on private property.
Controller for the black motor plug: the tunable 15A version stays at 32 km/h.
Locks: the battery is locked, the frame is not. Pick one from the locks collection.
Lighting and seats: a headlight, rear light and rear seat are available separately.

The Ouxi GT2000 has 24 inch wheels and 1440 Wh of battery, good for 80 km on average. It is for one person and goes up to 60 km/h tuned, with a killswitch. The V20 Pro is shorter, easier to park and takes two people along.

V20 Pro versus Ouxi C80 Family Edition

The Ouxi C80 Family Edition also runs on 20 inch, with the same 720 Wh battery, 7 Shimano gears and room for two. It weighs 36 kg and comes restricted only; tuning to 45 km/h goes through a separate controller. With the V20 Pro you choose the version straight away.

V20 Pro versus Ouxi V8 Ultra Max

The Ouxi V8 Ultra Max has two batteries with 1440 Wh together and reaches 120 km on average. It weighs 40 kg, goes up to 50 km/h tuned and has NFC locking with a built-in alarm. The V20 Pro is 6 kg lighter and has no alarm as standard.

How far do I get in the city on one battery charge?

60 km on average. In the city you keep to the bottom of the spread: 45 to 75 km. In PAS 1 you get further.

Am I allowed to ride the tuned V20 Pro through town?

No. Tuning is meant for private or enclosed property. On public roads 25 km/h remains the limit.

How do I store and secure the V20 Pro?

Take the battery indoors; it is locked and you get two keys. Secure the frame with a lock of your own. There is no alarm on it as standard.

What maintenance is needed and what does the warranty cover?

Clean the pedal sensor weekly, certainly after rain. The warranty runs 3 years on the frame and 1 year on the battery and moving parts. Tuning above 25 km/h falls outside it.
