Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

What does tuning a fatbike cost?

A tunable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

The Ouxi Q8 is a fatbike with 20 inch fatbike tyres, a 250W motor and a 48V / 20Ah / 960Wh battery. On low assistance you get up to 90 km. The bike is made for 2 people, with a maximum load of 150 kg. It suits anyone who takes long rides or often brings someone along.

Safety and the law

In the Restricted (250W) version the motor assists up to 25 km/h. That means you ride legally on the public road straight away: no driving licence, no number plate and no helmet requirement. LED lighting keeps you visible and the bike has a built-in alarm. Riding faster with the Tunable version is something you do on private or enclosed property only.

The Ouxi Q8 in daily use

Comfort and riding position

The frame size is 75 cm. The ergonomic saddle and the front suspension partly absorb cobbles and speed bumps. The Q8 is suitable for 2 people and carries a maximum of 150 kg. With 7 Shimano gears you keep pedalling even without assistance. To be fair: at 36 kg this is not a light bike to lift.

Battery, range and charging

How far you get with 960 Wh depends mainly on the assistance level: about 75 km on high, 85 km on medium and up to 90 km on low assistance. Riding style, speed, tyre pressure, temperature and terrain also play a part. Charging from empty to full takes 4 to 6 hours, so a night on the charger is more than enough.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

If you choose the Tunable version when you order, you tune the Ouxi Q8 to 50 km/h. The tuning parts are then already included, such as the tunable Ouxi M5 display (2.0) that fits the Q8: you don't need to buy anything separately and only pay the price difference. A tuning code unlocks the higher speed. With the killswitch you switch back to 25 km/h before you ride onto the public road. If you later want a spare part, you will find it in the tuning kits. Service, warranty and delivery

You get 3 years warranty on the frame and 1 year on the moving parts and the battery. You choose the delivery yourself. Boxed: you assemble the bike yourself. Assembled: we build it up, adjust the brakes and check the battery, so it arrives ready to ride. Order in the Netherlands before 23:59 and you will have it tomorrow.

Parts and accessories for the Ouxi Q8

Controller: if you later want a spare part, there is the Ouxi Q8 21A controller with red motor plug.
Display: the tunable M5 display (2.0); with the Tunable version it is already included.
Alarm and lighting: the alarm is built in and LED lighting comes fitted to the bike as standard.

The QMWheel V20 Pro has 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh and reaches up to 75 km on low assistance; the Q8, with 960 Wh, gets up to 90 km. Both have a 75 cm frame size, 20 inch wheels, 7 Shimano gears and 4 to 6 hours charging time. The V20 Pro, at 34 kg, is 2 kg lighter and has hydraulic disc brakes plus a rear shock absorber.

Ouxi Q8 versus Ouxi GT2000

The Ouxi GT2000 has 48V / 30Ah / 1440Wh and reaches up to 100 km. It rides on 24 inch off-road tyres, has an 85 cm frame size and is meant for 1 person. It comes with a throttle; the Tunable version has a killswitch. If you want to ride with two people, choose the Q8. For more range and bigger wheels, the GT2000 is the better fit.

Ouxi Q8 versus Ouxi C80 Family Edition

The Ouxi C80 Family Edition, like the Q8, weighs 36 kg and also has a 75 cm frame size and 20 inch wheels. Its 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh battery reaches up to 75 km on low assistance. The C80 Family Edition is sold restricted only; tuning runs through a separate controller or display. With the Q8 you choose this when you order and the tuning parts are included.

Do I have to assemble the Ouxi Q8 myself?

Only with boxed delivery. If you choose assembled, we build up the bike, adjust the brakes and check the battery. It then arrives with you ready to ride.
