Can I have my fatbike tuned by you?

Our fatbikes are tunable, and we also supply individual parts to upgrade your fatbike. Please note: tuning is only permitted on private property, not on public roads.

Is a fatbike still legal?

Yes, a fatbike that complies with current regulations (max. 25 km/h pedal assist and a 250W motor) is fully legal on public roads. Tuned models may only be used on private property.

Do you need a driver’s license for a fatbike?

You don’t need a driver’s license for a regular fatbike with pedal assist up to 25 km/h. You do for tuned models above that limit. Keep in mind those are only allowed on private property.

Do you need a helmet on a fatbike?

A helmet is strongly recommended for your own safety. From 2026, a helmet requirement will be introduced for certain fatbike categories.

What does tuning a fatbike cost?

A tunable controller costs from 98 euro for the V20 family and the Ouxi models, and 179 euro for the GT2000. Fitting it yourself usually takes less than half an hour. Not sure which part fits your fatbike?

Ouxi V8 Ultra Black

The Ouxi V8 Ultra runs on a 250W motor with a 48V / 15Ah / 720Wh battery and goes up to 80 km. When ordering, choose the Restricted version (250W, 25 km/h) for the public road or Tunable up to 50 km/h for private property. The tuning parts are already included: you do not need to buy anything separately and only pay the extra charge.

Ouxi V8 Ultra – Black: ride out two-up, secured with NFC and an alarm

A 720 Wh battery, up to 80 km of range on the lowest assistance and room for two people. The 250W motor with rotation sensor gets you going after half a pedal stroke. An NFC lock and a built-in alarm come as standard with the bike.

The V8 Ultra is meant for people who ride every day and sometimes take someone along. It shares its base with our Ouxi V8 Ultra Max, but runs on one battery. You order it from FatbikeKlaar.nl; from Belgium you can do so through FatbikeKlaar.be and in English through FatbikeKlaar.com.

Safety and the law

In the Restricted (250W) version the motor assists up to 25 km/h. That way you ride legally on the public road, without a driving licence, helmet or number plate. The NFC lock and the alarm make life harder for a thief. If you choose Tunable, tuned riding is allowed on private or enclosed property only.

The V8 Ultra in daily use

Comfort and riding position

The long saddle has room for two people and the footrests come as standard. The maximum load is 150 kg. Front and rear suspension absorb speed bumps and cobbles. With 7 Shimano gears you choose for yourself how hard you pedal. Do keep the weight in mind: the bike weighs 40 kg, and you notice that when you lift it.

Battery, display and charging

The battery is removable, so the bike does not need to stand next to a socket. From empty to full takes 5 to 7 hours; charging overnight is the obvious choice. On average assistance you get 60 km, on the lowest level up to 80 km. The display is a renewed LCD display with a protective cover.

Tuning: what is possible and what is allowed

The Tunable version can be tuned up to 50 km/h. The tuning parts are already included: you do not need to buy anything separately and you only pay the extra charge for this version. Tuning works as on the Ouxi V8 Ultra Max and the rest of the V8 family: with a tunable display with killswitch, or with a tunable V8 controller. If you later want a spare part, the tunable M5 display and the tunable HC80 display with NFC are also available separately. With the killswitch you set the bike back to 25 km/h. Tuned riding is allowed on private or enclosed property only; on the public road a maximum of 25 km/h pedal assist applies.

Service, warranty and delivery

You get 3 years warranty on the frame, and 1 year on moving parts and the battery. Boxed, you receive the bike packed and assemble it yourself. Assembled means: we build it up, adjust the brakes and check the battery, so it arrives ready to ride. Order in the Netherlands before 23:59 and you have it at home tomorrow. Parts and accessories for the V8 Ultra

With the Tunable version the tuning parts are already included, so you do not buy anything separately for that. If you later look for a spare part, choose it by model; for a controller, the colour of your motor plug counts too.

Displays: as a spare part, the tunable M5 or HC80 display from the tuning section.
Controllers: as a spare part, a tunable V8 controller; check your plug colour beforehand.

V8 Ultra versus Ouxi V8 Ultra Max

The Ouxi V8 Ultra Max has the same base, but two batteries of 48V / 15Ah, together 1440 Wh. With that it reaches 120 km on average assistance, against 60 km for the V8 Ultra. Both have a 250W motor and front and rear suspension, charge in 5 to 7 hours, are tunable up to 50 km/h and weigh 40 kg. If you ride long distances every day, the Ultra Max suits you better.

V8 Ultra versus QMWheel V20 Pro

The QMWheel V20 Pro also has a 720 Wh battery and likewise reaches 60 km on average assistance. It weighs 34 kg, 6 kg less than the V8 Ultra, and charges in 4 to 6 hours. On the lowest level the V8 Ultra takes you up to 80 km, the V20 Pro roughly 75 km. The V8 Ultra also lists an NFC lock and a built-in alarm in its specifications.

V8 Ultra versus Ouxi GT2000

The Ouxi GT2000 has a 1440 Wh battery and reaches 80 km on average assistance. It rides on 24 inch wheels, is meant for 1 person, weighs 34 kg and charges in 5 to 6 hours. The V8 Ultra rides on 20 inch wheels and does take a passenger along.

Do I need a driving licence for the V8 Ultra?

No, not in the Restricted (250W) version. The motor then assists up to 25 km/h: no driving licence, helmet or number plate needed. Tuned, you ride on private or enclosed property only.

How far do I get on one battery charge?

On average assistance 60 km, on the lowest level up to 80 km. Riding style, speed, tyre pressure, temperature and terrain also determine how far you get.

May I ride tuned on the public road?

No. Tuned riding up to 50 km/h is allowed on private or enclosed property only. On the public road the pedal assist stays restricted to 25 km/h.

What warranty do I get?

You get 3 years warranty on the frame and 1 year on moving parts and the battery. Also check the tyre pressure and the brakes regularly.

Do I have to assemble the V8 Ultra myself?

That is your choice. Boxed, you assemble it yourself. Assembled, we build up the bike, adjust the brakes and check the battery.
